I got on the phone with our very helpful PC Mall rep to let him know that we had experienced a DOA with the first computer. ![]() I plugged the first one in to configure it for use within our company and upon pushing the power button, a loud pop sounded from the bottom front of the computer, with a blue spark being visibly at the same area. "We just purchased two dual-core PowerMac G5 computers on Wednesday and received them yesterday. While we are seeking confirmation for this problem in terms of a potential batch of bad power supplies, it is also entirely possible that the power supply failure occurred because of a aberrant power spike or the malfunction of a connected FireWire hub or other device. We've now received reports from readers indicating issues with faulty power supplies that result in inability startup the machine - out-of-box. ![]() ![]() In the past we've also noted that the replacement of some PowerMac G5s' power supplies resulted in alleviation of excessive fan noise. We previously reported on an issue with using PowerMac G5s with outlets that are high voltage, but not out of acceptable operating range.
